APPLICATION DEADLINE IS JUNE 1, 2011

Introduction
The mission of the “Accademia Dino Ciani” is to give young, outstanding, international artists the opportunity to develop their skills, to work on repertoire, to live and breathe in an atmosphere of collegial musicianship, and to extend their results onto the concert stage.

The “Accademia Dino Ciani” will take place in Cortina d’Ampezzo during the Dino Ciani Festival from July 24th to August 7th 2011. The course will bring together young pianists and violinists with professors, musicologists and professional musicians. During this period, students will take masterclasses, attend concerts and lectures and perform in concerts in Cortina and in the surrounding towns.

This year, the Academy introduces a Chamber Music Workshop with Andras Keller. During the second week of the Festival each young pianist will have the opportunity to work with Academy violinists from the Toho Gakuen School of Music, Japan. All pianists should be prepared to play at least two pieces for violin and piano.

Eligibility
Young pianists aged 15-35 presently studying or graduates of a music institution who wish to deepen their understanding of music and performing arts, to extend their knowledge of the process of music making and to widen their artistic horizons, AND those who plan to make music their profession are welcome to take part in the “Accademia Dino Ciani”.

Interested applicants should:
  • Fill in the Online Application Form;
  • Send a copy of an official identification document (e.g. passport, ID card, etc.) which states your date and place of birth;
  • Send a detailed curriculum;
  • Send a DVD or video recording of at least two contrasting pieces from different eras (around 15-20 minutes);
  • Send the repertoire you desire to work on during the course (at least two different concert pieces). PIANISTS IN THE FIRST WEEK SHOULD INDICATE WHICH TEACHER THEY WOULD LIKE TO WORK WITH. THE TWO OPTIONS ARE: 2 LESSONS WITH BASHKIROV, 1 LESSON WITH SWANN, 1 LESSON WITH MARTINEZ-MEHNER or 2 LESSONS WITH RAEKALLIO, 1 LESSON WITH SWANN, 1 LESSON WITH MARTINEZ-MEHNER. Pianists in the second week of the course will have the opportunity to work and play with the violinists in the Chamber Music Workshop. Please provide your violin and piano repertoire, indicating which pieces you would be interested in working on;
  • Pay an Application Fee of 50 Euros – payable to Amici del Festival e Accademia Dino Ciani – in a check, money order, or bank transfer. The fee is exclusive of the course expenses and is not refundable. This fee is intended to signify your real intention to apply to the Accademia and it represents a small contribution to our administrative costs.
Applications must be received within June 1st, 2011.

Costs
Student Fee: 400 Euros per week (20% VAT included). It includes at least four lessons with teachers available during that week, free admission to all Academy activities, such as concerts and lectures, and all Festival concerts; participation in concerts in Cortina and in surrounding towns, as well as access to practicing facilities. Students can attend the full two weeks or may choose to attend only one week.
Pianists in the second week will have the opportunity to study and play with the violinists of the Chamber Music Workshop.

The course fee must be paid within four weeks after the receipt of the acceptance letter.

Cancellation Policy
For cancellations before June 15, 2011: half of the fee will be refunded. For cancellations after June 15, 2011: the paid fee will not be refunded.

Access
Students will have free access to all Festival concerts, as well as all Festival and Accademia activities – lectures, presentations, etc.

Masterclass and Practice Facilities
Masterclasses will be open to all students and students are highly encouraged to attend all masterclasses. A limited number of pianos will be available for practicing. Schedules will be made available in advance so that everyone has a chance to practice.

Artists’ Rights
Masterclasses and live performances may be filmed, recorded or photographed for archival purposes only and will not be used for commercial purposes, unless authorized by the artist. 

Accommodation
The “Accademia Dino Ciani” cannot provide room and board for its participants but we will do everything possible to help all participants find comfortable and pleasant accommodation. A list of hotels with special Academy rates will be provided to all participants. There may also be the possibility of group chalet rentals or of being hosted by a local family. Meals
A list of local restaurants offering specially priced meals will also be provided to all participants.

Travel
The nearest airport is Venice Marco Polo or Treviso. Buses from Venice airport and Treviso are limited but available. Check our website for details. The closest train stations to Cortina are in Calalzo or Dobbiaco. Buses are available from either of these cities to Cortina. Check our website for details.
